Rain returns to Hyderabad after weeks of dry weather, catching commuters by surprise

After weeks of dry weather, Hyderabad witnessed a sudden downpour on Sunday (September 6) with many parts of the city covered in clouds and rain during the afternoon.

The weather remained clear and sunny during the first half of the day, then after 15:00 darkness fell in some parts of the city. Areas including Uppal, Habsiguda, Tarnaka and Mettuguda witnessed showers that caught commuters by surprise.

Since it was a Sunday, no major traffic complications were reported. While it rained in several parts of the city, many other areas remained dry.

According to Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) data, Miyapur recorded 25 mm of rainfall followed by 16 mm in Malakpet, 15.8 mm in Kavadiguda, 15.5 mm in Uppal, 15.3 mm in Moosarambagh, 14.8 mm in Amberpet, 12.5 mm in Kuwait and 12.3 mm in Kuwait.

Meanwhile, many districts received light rain. According to TGDPS data, Kodakandala in Jangaon recorded 54.5 mm followed by 51 mm in Eturunagaram (Mulugu), 46.8 mm in Narketpally (Nalgonda), 45.8 mm in Mothkur (Yadadri Bhuvanagiri), 43.5 mm in Phanigiri (Jayasygonpet) and Rehankarda (Bhupalpally) (3 mm).
