Rahul, Priyanka, Maneka and Varun – four members of the Gandhi family – rarely spoke in one voice about any problem, political or other.
But for a change, four Gandhis showed unity and were on the same page against the recent order of the Supreme Court at stray dogs in Dilli-NCR.
On August 11, the Supreme Court ordered the municipal authorities to pick up and accommodate all stray dogs in Delhi and part of the capital (NCR) by eight weeks.

The Order was criticized by people from cross-section-activists for animal rights, Bollywood celebrities and politicians.
“Return from decades … ‘
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described the directive as “a step back from decade of humane, scientific policy”. “The SC Directive to remove all stray dogs from Delhi-NCR is a step back from the decade of humane, scientifically supported politics. These voiceless souls are not” problems “to be deleted,” said opposition leader (LOP) in Lok Sabha in post X.
MP Rae Bareli said that the need for an hour was to have “shelters, sterilization, vaccination and community care” to keep the streets safe without cruelty.
Rahul’s sister and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra rang Rahul’s thoughts. Priyanka expressed concern about the possibility of inhuman treatment that dogs could face when they are moved to shelters.
“There is certainly a better way to handle the situation, and you will find a humane way in which these innocent animals are old and maintained also safe,” she said in the post.
“Dogs are the most beautiful, softer creatures, they do not deserve this kind of cruelty.”
Institutionalization of cruelty: Varun
Varun Gandhi, Rahul and Priyankan cousin, joined and said that “nations face deeper moral crises as they retreat from empathy.”

“The ranking of Suo Moto on stray dogs of the Supreme Court is an institutionalization of cruelty and a harbinger of the legal structure that is trying to punish those who cannot take care of themselves,” said Varun Gandhi, former member of Lok Sabha, in position X.
Varun’s mother, Maneka Gandhi, prominent animal rights activist, environmentalist and politician, said she was not a “feasible order”.
“It is a very strange judgment issued by someone who is in anger. As you know, angry judgments are never reasonable,” the press agency quoted it.
The SC Directive to remove all stray dogs from Delhi-NCR is a step back from decades of humorous, scientific policy.
The cousins hold opposite political views. Maneka, a former Minister of Trade unions, is the wife of Sanjay Gandhi. The late Sanjay Gandhi was the brother of the former Prime Minister of late Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul’s father. Maneka left the home of Indired Gandhi in 1982 after the differences with her and then joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
While Rahul and Priyanka are MPs of Congress, Maneka and Varun are former BJP deputies. Varun did not listen to the elections Lok Sabha 2024. Maneka lost from the seat of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
