Bharatiya Janata Party President Nitin Nabin on Wednesday (May 20, 2026) said Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s remark about Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “traitor” reflected his “anarchic mindset”.
“You have insulted not only Narendra Modi ji but 140 million citizens of this country. It seems you have not learned from the past because every time you have insulted Narendra Modi ji, people have responded by garlanding him with victory. You will definitely have to pay a heavy price for such an unfortunate remark. Nabin in the video,” Mr Nabin said in the video
Mr Nabin’s reaction came after Mr Gandhi called Mr Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah “traitors” and accused them of attacking the Constitution at an event in his Raebareli Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
Stating that such a comment only served to disturb the country’s political atmosphere, the BJP chief said, “His (Mr Gandhi’s) constant electoral defeats and the resulting frustration are now becoming evident in his temperament and demeanor and that desperation and despondency are reflected in his statements.”
He said under Mr. Modi’s leadership, the country’s borders were secure and the government had adopted a zero-tolerance policy on corruption and terrorism, unlike the Congress-led rule, which he claimed was plagued by corruption.
“Your forefathers stopped the soil of this country and never did anything to boost the morale of our soldiers,” Mr Nabin said, adding that under Mr Modi, soldiers served the country with self-respect and dignity. “Is eradicating Naxalism, protecting the country’s territory and strengthening the honor of the tricolor across the country an act of treason?” he asked.
