AIKKMS urges Center to withdraw VB-G RAM-G Act, continue earlier scheme
Members of the All India Kisan Khet Mazdoor Sanghatan (AIKKMS) on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the President and Chief Minister through the Kalaburagi Zilla Panchayat CEO demanding withdrawal of the proposed Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevik Mission (Gramin) (VB-Gt205 RAM-G) Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
In the memorandum, the organization urges the governments to increase the guaranteed employment under NREGA from 100 man-days to 200 man-days per year and ensure a daily wage of ₹600 for the workers.
AIKKMS leaders said rural people are facing severe hardships due to rising cost of agricultural inputs, falling crop prices, drought, natural calamities and environmental changes and these factors have weakened agriculture and forced many rural people to migrate to urban areas in search of livelihood.
They said the proposed VB-G RAM-G Bill will weaken the legal guarantee of employment available under NREGA and will adversely affect agricultural workers and the rural poor.
Under the existing provisions of NREGA, employment must be provided within 15 days of the demand, they said.
The organization also criticized the proposed shift of financial responsibility between the Center and the states in implementing the scheme, saying it may affect the allocation of funds and the implementation of employment programmes.
AIKKMS District President Ganapat Rao K. Mane and other leaders were present.
