Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly R. Ashok on Saturday (October 24) alleged irregularities in the tenders floated by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) for waste management and transshipment. He accused the government of favoring an ineligible company and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.
At a press conference, Mr. Ashok said that one of the ₹133 crore bids floated by GBA was awarded to a private company even though the firm did not meet the eligibility criteria. He also claimed that the tender was awarded to the company at the behest of the minister.
According to Mr. Ashok, the company had a turnover of ₹3.34 crore in 2023-24, against the stipulated minimum annual turnover of ₹10 crore. He also said that the Letter of Acceptance (LoA) was given to the company despite the finance department’s warning.
In packages 2 and 5, deposits of ₹6.79 crore and ₹5.99 crore respectively were waived off, he said. He also alleged that a total of ₹12.99 crore in additional security deposits was not collected from the company.
Mr. Ashok asked why negotiations were not held with other eligible bidders for rate reductions. He also alleged that tenders for 21 packages of waste transfer stations were floated without identifying the land for the facility.
Mr. Ashok demanded that the Lokayukta or a high-level agency investigate the matter. He said that he would write to the minister requesting the cancellation of the selection process. Mr. Ashok also criticized the increase in waste collection charges for large scale manufacturers.
