US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Atlanta, USA, on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Saturday.
The group reviewed progress in translating shared priorities into real benefits for the Indo-Pacific region amid plans to hold a Quad leaders’ summit in the Philippines next month.
“I was pleased to meet with my Quad counterparts in Atlanta to discuss the real progress we’ve made in turning our shared priorities into real benefits for the Indo-Pacific,” Mr. Rubio said in a post on X.
“As our nations continue to build reliable and open supply chains, support next-generation technologies, increase maritime cooperation, and secure critical minerals, the United States, Australia, India and Japan are delivering results for our people and the nations of the region,” Mr. Rubio added.
Mr Jaishankar said the meeting was aimed at giving impetus to bilateral relations.
“We appreciate @SecRubio’s hospitality in Atlanta for the @g20org FMM. They appreciated our bilateral cooperation,” Mr. Jaishankar said in a post on X.
This year was the third meeting of the Quad foreign ministers. Ministers have previously met in New Delhi in May and in Manila in July.
Steps are underway to convene the Quad Leaders’ Summit hosted by US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the ASEAN-East Asian summits in mid-November.
