Protesting youths clashed with police during a march towards Punjab CM’s residence over unemployment

Youth protesting under the banner of Berozgar Sanyukt Morcha Punjab clashed with police in Sangrur on Sunday (July 26, 2026) as they attempted to march towards Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence, officials said.

The protesters, who had been holding a sit-in in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office for a long time, started their march from the Věrka plant with banners and flags, demanding government contracts and fulfillment of their pending demands.

Police stopped the march by erecting barricades on the route leading to the Chief Minister’s residence.

When the protesters tried to pass the barricades, a scuffle broke out, leading to a tense situation.

Some protesters suffered minor injuries during the shoving, while several participants, including women, reportedly fainted at the protest site.

The protesters raised slogans against the Punjab government and alleged that despite months of agitation, their employment demands were not addressed.

Leaders of the Berozgar Sanyukt Morcha said they will continue their protests until the government provides a permanent solution to their demands.

They also warned of intensifying their nationwide agitation if no action was taken. Police remained deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
