Prithvi Shaw, girlfriend of Akriti Agarwal breaks up months after engagement

Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his fiancee Akriti Agarwal have decided to call it quits almost six months after announcing their engagement. Agarwal confirmed the split on Thursday, September 17, saying the decision was mutual and came after they realized they had different goals and circumstances for their future.

The split will end a relationship that has been in the public eye since their engagement announcement. Neither Shaw nor Agarwal released further details about their decision, with Agarwal specifically asking people to avoid speculation.

“It is with a heavy heart that I would like to share that my fiancĂ© and I have decided to part ways due to different goals and circumstances of our future. Although we love and care for each other, we have come to terms that our paths are not meant to be together. With our responsibilities and circumstances we are currently facing, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways,” Agarwal wrote on Instagram.

“I sincerely wish nothing but the best, peace and happiness for both of us as we move forward. I ask everyone to respect our privacy during this difficult time and refrain from speculating or conjecturing the reasons for our decision. Thank you for understanding and respecting our space,” she added.

SHAW AND AGARWAL’S ENGAGEMENT

Shaw announced his engagement to Agarwal on March 8by sharing a series of romantic photos on social media. In the pictures, the doughboy was seen on one knee as he placed the ring on Agarwal’s finger, followed by pictures of the couple displaying their engagement rings.

“From sixes on the field to a lifetime of batting off it. It’s my perfect innings!” Shaw wrote next to the photos.

The couple was also spotted together at Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok’s star-studded wedding celebrations in Mumbai earlier this year.

Agarwal is a social media influencer and actress from Lucknow who moved to Mumbai and has built over 3 million followers on Instagram. She later ventured into acting and made her debut with the film Trimukha.

SHAW’S CRICKET CAREER AT A CROSSROADS

The development comes at a time when Shaw is trying to revive his cricket career. The right-handed batsman made his mark on the international scene in 2018, scoring 134 against the West Indies on his Test debut in Rajkot. At 18 years and 329 days, he became the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut.

However, his progress subsequently stopped. In October 2024, Mumbai dropped Shaw from their Ranji Trophy squad due to concerns over fitness, training attendance and what the Mumbai Cricket Association described as his “general behaviour”.

His IPL journey has also been difficult. Shaw went unsold twice at his base price of Rs 75 crore in the 2026 auction before Delhi Capitals bought him for the same amount in the accelerated round. However, he did not play a single match in the tournament.

Shaw played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I for India, scoring 528 runs with one century and two fifties. He last represented India during the 2021 tour of Sri Lanka.
