Prince Harry met his father King Charles III in Clarence House in London on Wednesday, September 10, and described the end of 19 months of alienation after months of speculation about reconciliation.
Private tea at Clarence House
According to media reports, Duke Sussex met the king for private tea in his London residence. The media noted that Harry’s black car was entering Clarence House shortly after the king had returned from Scotland. The visit lasted less than an hour before Harry’s departure.
The meeting was their first since February 2024 and came after Harry recalled “reconciliation” at the beginning of this year and said “he didn’t know how long my father had”.
Previous meetings and tense ties
Harry last met his father in February 2024, shortly after Charles revealed his diagnosis of cancer. This meeting, also in Clarence House, took less than 45 minutes for Harry to fly back to California.
Relationships between Harry and his older brother, Prince William, remain tense. Although both were in Windsor on Monday, they did not meet, instead of Harry, he visited the grave of Queen Elizabeth II. The third anniversary of her death.
Harry’s busy British visit
Harry has been in the UK since Monday for a number of orders, including a visit to the center of the explosion at Imperial College London on Wednesday. The evening is also scheduled for the Invictus Games Foundation.
The Duke has returned to the UK since his last meeting with Charles, but he has not yet managed to see his father.
Continuing tension with Royals
Since he retreated from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California with his wife Meghan Markle, Harry often criticized the royal family.
Despite public tension, there were signs of reconciliation in July, when Charles’s secretary and Harry communication chief were seen in London, supporting speculation about the possible meeting of Father-Syn.
