Amid escalating protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (July 23) said the government will introduce even tougher measures to tackle examination fraud in a cabinet meeting on Friday.
In a post on X, Modi wrote: “Tougher anti-paper leak measures to come to cabinet tomorrow.”
The announcement came hours after he said the government would set up fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials and severe punishment for those involved in the paper leak.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court had informed the designated court to exclusively deal with criminal cases arising out of paper leakage and other malpractices used in public examinations.
According to a notification issued by the High Court Administration, the court of Judicial Officer Anu Grover Baliga will function as a “Specially Designated Fast Track Court” to try offenses under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractice) Act, 2024 along with related offences. The notice is effective immediately.
The special court will function from the Rouse Avenue Judicial Complex in Delhi.
The court’s designation follows the Prime Minister’s announcement that the Center will speed up the prosecution of those accused of rigging public examinations.
Prime Minister Modi on Thursday said the welfare and future of the country’s youth remained the top priority of the government and warned that anyone who tries to jeopardize the future of students through the paper leak will not be spared.
He said the government has decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure speedy justice and strict punishment in such cases, adding that he has directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps to curb the paper leak.
The development comes as the government faces mounting pressure over the alleged NEET paper leak, students continue to protest and the opposition demands accountability for resolving the dispute.
