Prateek Yadav, younger son of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Bisht Yadav, died on Wednesday morning (May 13, 2026) in Lucknow at the age of 38 after falling ill.
He was taken to a civil hospital in Lucknow, where doctors declared him brought dead. He was the half-brother of Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party.
A post-mortem examination carried out at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) revealed that Mr Yadav died as a result of a massive blockage of blood vessels in the lungs, which led to the collapse of the heart and respiratory system. The preliminary cause of death is cardiorespiratory collapse due to massive pulmonary embolism.
A senior doctor at Lucknow Civil Hospital said, “A doctor was dispatched to Mr Yadav’s residence after someone from his household came to the hospital at 5.30 am seeking urgent medical attention.”
“We are deeply saddened by this loss. He was a patient of ours for many years; I treated him for high blood pressure. He was admitted a few days ago after suffering a pulmonary embolism – a condition where a blood clot travels to the arteries and lodges in them. Due to the blockage in the lungs, his heart function was adversely affected and he complained of shortness of breath and was looking for shortness of breath, which is critical in nature and carries significant risk. Already he was taking blood thinners, was fully aware of his health problems and regularly took blood pressure medication…” said Dr. Ruchita Sharma from Medanta Hospital in Lucknow.
