Police have arrested two people for allegedly sexually assaulting minor girls, recording the acts on mobile phones and uploading them online.
Police said the case came to light after information was received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) about the suspected creation and dissemination of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Based on the alert, a case under Section 57 and Section 67(B) of the Information Technology Act was registered at the Kaggalipura police station on May 10.
During the investigation, police found that two underage girls were allegedly being exploited and videos of the abuse had been recorded and uploaded online. The statements of the victims were recorded in accordance with the legal procedure.
The accused have been identified as Kiran Kumar, 29, a resident of Kaggalipura, and Aditya MK, 20, a pool maintenance worker, currently living in Channapatna taluk. Police said Aditya hails from Shivamogga district.
Based on the statements of the victims and the evidence collected, the police added Sections 65(2) and 70 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act along with Sections 4(2), 5(L), 5(M), 6, 14 and 15 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
The accused were arrested on May 12 and three mobile phones allegedly used to shoot the videos were seized. They were later produced before the court and taken into police custody for further investigation.
police described the case as significant because, unlike most CSAM cases where perpetrators are found to be in possession of downloaded content, this case involved the arrest of the alleged creators and users who uploaded the abusive material.
