The Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched phase 1 at the Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday.
Airport – which was built at the price of around £19 650 Crore – is the first Indian fully fully digital airport. It is expected to strengthen real estate growth, tourism, trade and green innovation.
PM Modi was accompanied by the main Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis.
The newly launched Navi Mumbai International Airport is expected to manage 90 million passengers annually (MPPA) and 3.25 million tons of cargo, PTI reported.
- Nmia will also be the first airport in the country to be connected by a water taxi.
- The airport will also contain reserved storage for sustainable air fuel (SAF).
- Airlines including Indigo, Air India Express and Akasa Air, along with several others, have already announced plans to start services and connect the airport with the capital cities throughout India.
- Indigo said that it will start operation in NMI with 18 day departures to 15 destinations and will scaling up to 79 daily departures, Mint reported.
When will surgery start?
Business operations at the Navi Mumbai International Airport are scheduled to start in December 2025, with approximately 40 percent of the operation to be international.
Officials noted that the newly launched airport will initially operate for 12 hours a day, with international operations to increase to 75 percent over time.
As the second international airport for the Metropolitan Region in Mumbai, NMI is ready to work in a tandem with the International Airport of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (CSMIA) to facilitate overload.
