
Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed Tobago. During his first official visit to the Caribbean nation, he met with members of the Indian community and appreciated their contributions to the development of the country.
PM Modi in the paper said: “Cultural connection like no other! Very glad to witness Bhojpuri’s chautaal performance in the port of Spain. The connection between Trinidad and Tobag and India, especially the Eastern and Bihar.”
In another post on X, he described the Indian community as an unforgettable welcome in the port of Spain. Recognition of their benefits in the country’s development wrote: “Many people from India have come to Trinidad and Tobago years ago. Over the years, they have differentiated in several fields and enrich the Trinidad & Tobago development route. At the same time, they maintained the connection with India and are also passionate about Indian culture.”
According to a spokesman for the Ministry for External Affairs, a visit to Trinidad and Tobago is historical as a visit to the Indian Prime Minister of this Caribbean nation comes after 26 years. He described the ethnic demography of Trinidad and Tobago and noted that a total of 13 laches live in this country, of which 45 percent are of Indian origin. He added: “The relationship between India and T&T is very strong and strange. Among the 45% of the people who live here, most of them are those who came from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Most of these people are those who come from the Bhojpuri-speaking districts,” they reported.
