The head of the research wing of the All India Congress Committee, Prof. MV Rajeev Gowda, on Friday (July 10, 2026) said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took all the credit for the construction and inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, should also take responsibility when serious allegations of misappropriation of funds in the Ram Temple Trust were made public.
Talking to reporters, Professor Gowda said that the appointments to the Trust were made by the Union government and Home Minister Amit Shah was the focal point of these appointments.
“All the activities related to the temple trust, all the appointments were made through the Union Government and the central point of the appointments was Home Minister Amit Shah. We had a senior RSS official at the very top of the organization. Champath Rai and Anil Mishra. This trust was also kept outside the RTI Act. Why was it outside the law if it was run cleanly? Why did they sign Mr. Mishra and Mr. Mishra again.”
He further said that the SIT formed by the Uttar Pradesh government has been compromised.
“The director of Uttar Pradesh has set up a special investigation team led by an officer who has several charges of fraud and other things. He is only targeting small fish. Where has most of the money gone? If you take a loan, you must also take responsibility.”
Prof Gowda asked why PM Modi is silent on these issues when he has no problem talking about issues when it suits him or inflaming social tensions.
“We demand registration of FIR and immediate arrest of Champath Rai and Anil Mishra. We demand an independent investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court,” he said.
