Surgery on the left shoulder, which also has an injured rotator cuff, will be performed after two months, according to the press release.

Doctors did not recommend operating on both shoulders at the same time due to the likelihood that the pain would worsen during recovery. The surgery on the right shoulder took three and a half hours.

Mr. Kalyan suffered a shoulder injury in 2016 and has been participating in various programs since then, though doctors advised rest after first aid.

During the 2018 Porata Yatra, party cadres and fans in their eagerness to get close to their leader often pulled his hands and shook them, causing pain which subsequently intensified.

The injuries became more serious during his Varahi Yatra and tour of the Rayalaseema region after the 2019 elections when the physical strain on his shoulders increased, but he ignored the condition.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wished Mr. Kalyan a speedy recovery and good health.
