PM Modi lands in Sweden; conduct negotiations on trade, technology, defense | Today’s news

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Sweden on Sunday to hold talks on trade, technology, defense and other key sectors.

The Prime Minister’s plane was accompanied by Swedish Air Force jets when it landed in Gothenburg. He was warmly welcomed at the airport by his Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson.

“I will meet Prime Minister Kristersson to deepen India-Sweden friendship in the areas of trade, investment, innovation, defense and more,” PM Modi said in a post on social media.

He further said, “I will meet with Prime Minister Kristersson and European Commission President Ms. Ursula von der Leyen with leading European businessmen at the European Business Roundtable for Industry. This will also deepen investment ties between India and Europe.”

PM Modi’s two-day tour of Sweden will focus on exploring new avenues of cooperation to boost bilateral trade, which has reached USD 7.75 billion by 2025.

The two sides will also focus on strengthening ties in the areas of green transition, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies, startups, resilient supply chains, space, climate action and people-to-people relations.

PM Modi had earlier visited Sweden in 2018 for the first ever India-Nordic summit.

This is the second leg of PM Modi’s four-member European tour. He has already visited the Netherlands, where he signed 17 agreements to strengthen cooperation in defense, critical minerals and other key sectors.

He will also visit Norway and Italy this week.

Soon after landing in Gothenburg, PM Modi met members of the Indian diaspora who were there to greet him. He was greeted with musical performances, including a Swedish woman’s rendition of a bhajan.
