New Delhi (India), September 24 (nor): Minister of Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal is currently in the United States of high -level business negotiations because both nations are working to conclude a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement, the government official confirmed Wednesday.
Goyal, accompanied by delegation of higher officials of the ministry, including a special secretary and the main negotiator of India Rajesh Agrawal, is engaged in discussions about American counterpart shops.
The ministerial team is expected to return to India by the end of this week.
The current visit follows productive all -day interviews held in Nový Delhi 16 September between the US main negotiator Brendan Lynch and Agrawal.
The Ministry of Trade has described these discussions as “positive”, and both parties agreed to accelerate the efforts to “timely and mutually beneficial conclusion” of the proposed trading pact.
Negotiations are held against the background of increased tension trade, while the US recently imposed 25 % tariff plus another 25 % fine for Indian goods entering the US market – measures associated with continuing the purchase of Russian oil in India.
The aim of the bilateral trade agreement, which was formally launched in February to directives from the leaders of both countries, is by 2030 more than the volumes of double trade from the current $ 191 billion to $ 500 billion.
The officials initially focused on completing the first phase until autumn 2025, with five rounds of negotiation.
This refers to Goyal’s second main trade mission in Washington this year after his May visit, where he conducted extensive discussions with US Trade Minister Howard Lutnice. The current journey of the Minister is the first business involvement at India in India since the performance of controversial tariffs.
Government officials said that interviews are taking place on several fronts at the same time, indicating that both nations are still determined to develop a strategic economic partnership despite recent business friction. (Or)
