Pixxel said that unlike conventional satellite computing systems that rely on low-power processors optimized for survivability rather than performance, the Pathfinder satellite will host data center-class graphics processing units (GPUs), the same generation of hardware as ground-based data centers that power frontier AI training and inference. | Photo credit: File Photo
Space startup Pixxel on Monday announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Sarvam to develop and build India’s first data center orbital satellite – Pathfinder.
As part of the partnership, Pixxel will design, build, launch and operate the satellite, and Sarvam will provide the AI backbone to handle training and inference directly in orbit, with full stack language models running on board the satellite.
