Petrol & Diesel Prices Today: Fuel prices in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata as Brent rises on July 9 | Today’s news

Petrol and diesel prices today: Fuel prices in India remained stable on Thursday despite minor fluctuations between cities. State-owned oil companies continue to offer petrol and diesel at the same rates since the last revision on May 25. Due to the renewed fighting between the US and Iran, Brent crude oil prices have seen significant movement in recent days.

Brent extended gains on Thursday as the US launched fresh strikes against Iran for a second day. Benchmark oil climbed 1.4% to settle above $79 a barrel after jumping more than 5% on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported, amid heightened risks to energy supplies from West Asia and concerns about investor sentiment. Amid the renewed escalation of the conflict, US President Donald Trump has declared that the interim peace deal with Iran has ended.

He threatened the possibility of reimposing a blockade on the Islamic Republic’s ports, while warning that oil prices could rise further. In his stark warning, he said the strikes could include the “takeover” of the export hub on Kharg Island. In a post on social media, Trump said the US strikes were “retaliation” for attacks by Iranian ships and “if it happens again, it will be much worse!”

With the state of the Persian Gulf under threat, TP ICAP analyst Scott Shelton said, “If we go back to the closed Strait of Hormuz, we’re probably going to go up another $10,” adding, “If oil continues to flow, it probably won’t go up much more than this. It’s really anyone’s guess.”

Amidst the E20 petrol range, Kejriwal is looking for response from car makers on the impact per kilometre

Amid the Centre’s push for a 20% ethanol policy for ethanol-laced fuels, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday wrote to Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Toyota Kirloskar and 27 other car makers seeking their response within seven days on the impact of E20 fuel on vehicle mileage and performance.

Following recent statements by car manufacturers denying the harmful effects of using E20 fuel in vehicles, Kejriwal sought written assurances from these companies. The AAP leader argued that if customers face any reduction in mileage or any impact on their vehicles due to the use of E20 fuel, they should be compensated by the manufacturers.

Questioning the car manufacturers’ user manuals that banned the use of petrol blended with more than 10 percent ethanol, he said, “I hope every company will respond because this is an extremely serious issue for consumers across the country. I also expect everyone to respond within a week because while their user manuals say one thing, some companies have publicly said something completely different,” PTI reported.
