Petrol & Diesel Prices June 7: Check Fuel Price in Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi, Gurgaon & Other Cities | Today’s news

Oil marketing companies (OMCs) and city gas distributors kept petrol and diesel prices unchanged on Sunday, June 7. Fuel prices are revised daily at 6am, but no revisions have been announced today.

Despite the current state of affairs, petrol and diesel prices have almost risen 7.5 per liter in recent weeks as OMCs reacted to soaring oil prices linked to the ongoing crisis in West Asia.

Meanwhile, households will pay more for cooking gas after the Government approved a 29 increase in domestic LPG cylinder prices from June 7, 2026. With the latest revision, the cost of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up to 942, above from 913. This is the second increase in domestic LPG prices in three months.

Commercial LPG users also faced a price hike earlier this month. With effect from June 1, the price of a 19kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased in Delhi 42, while the retail cost of 3,113.50.

The Center has separately reduced export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) for a fortnight starting June 1. Under the revised structure, the export duty was set at 1.5 per liter of petrol, 13.5 per liter for diesel and 9.5 per liter for ATF.

Why are petrol and diesel prices different in Indian cities?

Petrol and diesel prices in India are determined by a combination of domestic and international factors. World oil prices have the greatest influence, as oil serves as a key raw material for the production of transportation fuels. Since India imports a substantial portion of its oil needs, fluctuations in the rupee-to-dollar exchange rate also have a direct impact on fuel costs.

Taxes play an equally important role. The retail price paid by consumers includes central excise duty and state-specific value added tax (VAT). As VAT rates vary from state to state, petrol and diesel prices often vary from city to city and state to state.

Do oil marketing companies change fuel prices every day?

Under India’s dynamic fuel pricing mechanism, state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) such as Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum revise petrol and diesel prices on a daily basis.

However, daily revision does not necessarily lead to daily revision. Although OMCs can flexibly change prices based on movements in world oil markets, exchange rates and domestic market conditions, they often leave retail rates unchanged for long periods of time.

As a result, fuel prices are reviewed daily, but actual changes are only made when market trends and political considerations warrant adjustment.
