Petrol & Diesel Prices June 15: Check Fuel Price in Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai & Other Cities Today | Today’s news
Petrol and diesel prices remained unchanged in India on June 15 as state-owned oil companies continued to keep fuel rates flat. While domestic fuel prices saw no revision today, global oil markets remain volatile due to continued tensions in the West Asian crisis, keeping investors and policymakers on alert.
Fuel prices increased in May
Petrol and diesel prices were last revised in May 2026, when rates were increased by ₹3 per liter. Since then, oil companies have been conducting regular price checks, but have decided to maintain current rates. The decision to keep prices unchanged has provided some relief to consumers despite fluctuating international oil prices.
Consumers can check the latest petrol and diesel prices in their cities through the table below.
What determines petrol and diesel prices in India?
The prices motorists pay for petrol and diesel are influenced by a combination of global and domestic factors.
The most significant driver is the international price of oil, the primary raw material used to produce both fuels. Any movement in global oil prices usually has a direct impact on retail fuel prices in India.
Another crucial factor is the rupee to US dollar exchange rate. Since India imports most of its oil requirements, a weaker rupee makes imports more expensive and increases overall fuel costs.
Why do fuel prices vary from city to city?
Fuel prices vary across cities and states primarily due to differences in state taxes. While the central government collects excise duty, state governments impose their own value added tax (VAT), resulting in different retail prices across the country.
In addition, transportation and distribution costs, along with local demand and supply conditions, can affect the final price consumers pay at the pump.
The government prevents industry from buying petrol and diesel at the pumps
Meanwhile, the Center has banned industrial, commercial and institutional consumers from purchasing petrol and diesel through retail fuel outlets and directed them to procure supplies from authorized wholesalers instead.
The move followed an order issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Wednesday. Under the Motor Liquor and High Speed Diesel (Temporary Regulation of Supply through Retail Outlets) Regulations 2026, petroleum marketing companies and fuel retailers have been instructed to limit purchases of bulk fuel from service stations for up to 90 days.
The government made the move in response to unusually high growth in demand, especially for diesel, in some regions. Officials noted that several bulk customers shifted their purchases to retail gas stations to take advantage of price differences, putting additional pressure on gas station supplies.
