In the seventh month of their conflict, Brent ended the week 7.6% higher, while US crude gained nearly 10%. As supply routes in West Asia remain disrupted due to the war, global benchmark Brent crude futures rose 0.8% to 76 cents to settle at $92.68 a barrel on Friday. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate crude futures also rose 0.20% by 18 cents to settle at $91.48 a barrel, Reuters reported.
As tensions in the Persian Gulf raise concerns about global supplies, oil tankers and vessels struggle to pass through the Persian Gulf strait due to Iran’s closing of the Strait of Hormuz to the choke point of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed on Saturday that it attacked two US warships – an aircraft carrier and a destroyer – that were allegedly harassing Iranian ships and taking part in a naval blockade.
According to CENTCOM, it struck the vessel off the coast of Kharg Island – Iran’s oil export hub – in the latest round of strikes after the IRGC fired ballistic missiles at two US Navy ships. The head of US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, said: “Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will incur an even higher economic cost – we will knock out three of yours.”
In retaliation, the IRGC threatened to step up strikes against US military vessels in the region and claimed to have targeted three tankers and three other vessels linked to the US in other areas. The IRGC Navy said in a statement: “Do not be fooled by the ‘terrorist’ US military and refrain from any suspicious movement aimed at passing through unauthorized waterways,” Iranian state television reported.
Indian car consumers see cleaner fuel vehicles in the middle between the US and Iran
A report by Equirus Securities indicated that Indian auto consumers are shifting to cleaner fuel vehicles such as CNG, hybrids and electric vehicles, fueled by concerns over ethanol fuel. Retail sales of passenger vehicles (PV) grew by 16% year-over-year in August 2026, with cleaner fuel vehicles accounting for 42 percent of passenger vehicle sales.
“Gasoline’s share fell to a record low of 41 percent, while CNG rose to a record 25 percent, bringing the combined share of CNG, hybrids and EVs to 42 percent — ahead of gasoline for the first time,” the report said. A year earlier, the share of gasoline was 46%, while the share of CNG was 21%.
