Pennsylvania’s 911 system dropped on Friday afternoon around the world due to IT failure, which prevents emergency calls. At 15:18 o’clock, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) fired alerts of smartphones warning of “nationwide intermittent 911”.
The inhabitants were invited to contact local 911 centers through extraordinary lines instead. The outage came from a technical defect with a third party, which closed Peme, although officials did not know the seller.
Until 15:30, the districts began to publish alternative numbers online and through social media. Pema confirmed that he is working with technical professionals to restore services, but recommended: “Call 911 only for serious emergencies” if the lines work in your area.
Regions are trying for backup numbers in the middle of the crisis
As the outage persists, emergency centers across backup protocols in Pennsylvania. In Bucks County, officials ordered the population to call 215-328-8500 if 911 failed. Monroe County shared 570-992-9911, while Lehigh County provided 610-437-5252 or 610-437-7751.
Similar figures were published for all 67 regions, while Philadelphia lists the district specific lines for the first police district 215-686-3010. PEMA websites and social media accounts have become critical updates centers.
“Do not try 911 – use only alternatives if you have a real emergency,” Berks district stressed, noting that unnecessary calls could overcome backup systems.
