Congress leader Pawan Khera on Sunday (April 26, 2026) moved the Supreme Court of India, challenging the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea by the Gauhati High Court in a First Information Report (FIR) registered on his alleged remarks that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife had several passports and assets abroad.
The High Court rejected the pre-arrest bail application on the grounds that a custodial interrogation was necessary to reveal the source of his allegations. In its ruling on April 24, the High Court refused to accept Mr. Khera’s contention that his comments were merely political rhetoric.
