Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka handed over pattas of homes to eligible poor people among displaced persons from Bhood lands at Velugumatla in Khammam on Wednesday.
A model colony with all amenities for poor people will be built at Velugumatla in Khammam city so that people from other states in the country can visit it, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
He said that the remaining 16 acres of land in Velugumatla, after distributing house plots to the poor, would be used for the construction of Telangana Public School and other government educational institutions.
He was speaking after distributing house pattas to the eligible beneficiaries among the displaced poor people of Bhood lands in Velugumatla along with ministers Tummala Nageshwara Rao and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy at the Integrated District Office Complex (IDOC) in Khammam on Wednesday.
The move comes in the wake of the recent demolition of a little over 700 houses during an ‘eviction drive’ at Bhoodan estates in Velugumatla on 24 February 2026.
Deputy Chief Minister M. Bhatti Vikramarka handed over pattas of homes to eligible poor people among displaced persons from Bhood lands at Velugumatla in Khammam on Wednesday.
Out of a total of 412 eligible beneficiaries identified in the recent socio-economic survey in Velugumatla, pattas and Indiramma houses have been sanctioned to as many as 311 poor people in Bhoodan plots in Velugumatla. Indiramma houses were sanctioned to the remaining 101 poor people in their respective villages.
Addressing the beneficiaries in a meeting held at IDOC, Mr. Vikramarka told the beneficiaries that the government will not only build Indiramma houses for the poor people at Bhoodan land in Velugumatla but will also provide all the basic amenities like electricity, drinking water, roads, hospital, community hall and shopping complex.
The Deputy CM directed the officials to ensure that the construction of the model colony is completed by December 9, 2026. We will invite Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to the housewarming ceremonies of the poor people at Velugumatla on December 9, the birthday of Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi. he said.
He addressed the previous BRS rulers accusing them of failing miserably to build a single house and leaving the poor homeless in the lurch for almost a decade. Those who have failed to deliver even a single house have no moral right to criticize the present Congress government, he said.
He claimed that in a landmark initiative, the Congress government has approved a one-time grant of ₹22,500 crore for the construction of 4.5 million Indiramma houses for the poor across the state.
He said that some disenfranchised elements are deliberately resorting to muckraking against the Congress government as they do not want the poor to benefit from such welfare initiatives.
He alleged that the mafia network has been extorting money from poor people for the past few years and running a parallel system without providing basic facilities. The government has now taken steps to ensure that the poor can live with dignity and self-respect.
Mr. Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy attacked the previous BRS rulers and accused them of showing callous apathy towards the plight of poor people without punishing them with pattas during their 10-year rule.
“Now they are shedding crocodile tears,” he said, adding that the Praja Prabhutvam (Congress government) had sanctioned pattas and Indiramma houses to eligible poor people as part of its commitment to provide a roof over the head of every poor person.
Later, the beneficiaries interacted with the ministers and thanked them for taking the initiative to provide them pattas and Indiramma houses in Velugumatla.
Khammam Collector Anudeep Durishetty, Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt and others were present.
