Parents in Sri Sathya Sai district on Monday (December 15, 2025) took a public pledge to refrain from child marriage for their daughters. The pledge was made during an event held at the PGRS meeting hall at the Collectorate under the ‘Child Marriage Free India – 100 Days Programme’.
District Collector A. Shyam Prasad, who administered the pledge, appreciated them for voluntarily submitting written bonds to affirm their commitment to protect their daughters’ education, aspirations and future. “Child marriage is not only a crime under the law but also irreversibly damages the physical, emotional and social well-being of girls,” the Collector said.
The Collector directed officials to organize extensive awareness campaigns across schools, junior high schools and senior high schools to educate students, parents and communities about the adverse impact of child marriage on the society and the legal provisions against it. Mr. Shyam Prasad emphasized the importance of collective responsibility and urged all stakeholders to work together to transform Sathya Sai district into a child marriage free area.
Joint Collector M. Mourya Bharadwaj and senior officials from Finance, Police, ICDS and Medical and Health Departments were present.
