Paint unit gutted at Vazhakulam

A private paint factory was gutted in a major fire at Chembarakky near Vazhakulam, Kunnathunad on Friday. The manufacturing unit operated from the Industrial Development Area at Keenpadi, South Vazhakulam. No one was injured in the accident. The building and raw materials were completely destroyed. The fire broke out around 7:30 p.m

Rescue teams from Perumbavoor, Pattimattom, Aluva, Angamaly and Eloor fire stations doused the fire in an operation that took about three hours, an officer from Perumbavoor station said. The flammable nature of the materials and the lack of adequate fire precautions reportedly made the operation difficult.

The fire broke out after all the employees had left the premises in the evening. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
