More than 6,000 policemen have been deployed for security in view of the global summit at Bharat Future City on the outskirts of eastern Hyderabad. Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy on Tuesday (December 9) reviewed the elaborate security measures put in place for the global summit at Mir Khan Peta area of Rangareddy district. He monitored the measures from a specially set up command control center on site.
Accompanied by Additional DGP (Law and Order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat, the DGP reviewed the live CCTV feeds to examine the movement of vehicles, traffic regulations and deployment of personnel in the summit zone and surrounding localities.
A significant element of the security network is the deployment of 112 probationary DSPs recently selected through Group 1. Officials said 30 of them have been appointed as liaison officers to key delegates from India and abroad, while the rest have been posted to key posts in and around the summit venue. Four newly inducted IPS officers have also been entrusted with important duties.
The senior leadership, including three additional DGPs, five Inspector Generals and ten IPS officers oversee high-level surveillance on the ground. They reviewed several layers of security measures to ensure readiness for a major event.
During his visit, the DGP also inspected the ‘TG Quest’ police stall set up at the summit. Officials explained that the goal of the booth is to raise awareness about the expanding role of technology in maintaining law and order. They highlighted the increasing reliance on drones for surveillance, crime prevention, investigations, women’s safety, traffic control, VIP protection and counter-terrorism operations.
The DGP said that drones will play an increasingly important role in large-scale security planning and congratulated the officers for showcasing the technology. He noted that quick identification of suspicious areas and early availability of drone footage would greatly assist investigators and expedite the progress of the case.
The official later examined a live drone demonstration at the command’s control center, where officials demonstrated how about 10 drones were being used to monitor the summit area. He said the police would deploy drones extensively during the upcoming Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara next month.
