Operation Sindoor has emerged as a defining moment in India’s counter-terrorism and deterrence strategy, President Droupadi Murmu said while inaugurating the third edition of the Indian Army’s Chanakya Defense Dialogue-2025 on Thursday (November 27, 2025).
The world has taken note not only of India’s military prowess but also of its moral clarity to act firmly but responsibly in pursuit of peace, she said.
At the inaugural session, the President praised the Indian Armed Forces for exemplifying professionalism and patriotism in upholding India’s sovereignty. She said that during every security challenge – conventional, counter-insurgency or humanitarian – the forces have demonstrated remarkable adaptability and resolve. In addition to operational duties, they continue to contribute significantly to national development through infrastructure, connectivity, tourism and education in border areas.
Blurred boundaries
Highlighting the rapidly changing global landscape, Ms. Murmu said the international system is being reshaped by competing power centers, technological disruptions and shifting alliances. As cyber, space, information and cognitive warfare emerge as new areas of competition, the lines between peacetime and conflict are increasingly blurred.
Guided by the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, India has shown that strategic autonomy can coexist harmoniously with global responsibility, she said. India seeks peace but is ready to defend its borders and citizens with force and conviction.
Transformation of the military
The President appreciated the ongoing changes in the Indian Army during its ‘Decade of Transformation’, which is delivering quantifiable results across structures, doctrines and capabilities. She expressed confidence that these reforms will support India’s journey towards self-sufficiency in defence.
She also welcomed the military’s focus on youth and human capital through education, the expansion of the National Cadet Corps and sports. Increased participation by young officers and soldiers will boost inclusivity and inspire more women to join the armed forces and other professions, she said.
Ms. Murmu expressed optimism about the proceedings at the Chanakya Defense Dialogue-2025 and said the outcomes would offer valuable insights for policymakers in shaping India’s future national security architecture. She reaffirmed her confidence that the armed forces will continue to move forward with determination and contribute to the realization of the goal of Viksit Bharat, a developed India by 2047.
