One dead, four missing in Nilambur flash flood

One person drowned and four others were feared swept away by a flash flood at Kottappuzha near Amarambalam near Nilambur on Sunday afternoon (September 20).

The incident took place at Olarvattam Kadavu near 40 Cent Colony, Pookkottumpadam.

According to residents, the unexpected wave caught five people who were on the river bank. After an investigation, the victim’s body was found. The deceased has not yet been identified.

Police said it was not raining in the immediate area at the time of the incident and the flash flood was likely triggered by heavy rain deep inside the forest.

Police officers and members of the Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene and continued the search until nightfall.
