One dead and three injured when a car plunges into a river near Kuttikkanam in Keralam

One person died and three others were injured after a car plunged into a river at Nalammil near Kuttikkanam on the Kuttikkanam–Kattappana hill in Kerala’s Idukki district late on Friday (September 25, 2026) night.

According to the police, the accident happened after 10 p.m. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek S. Nair, 28, a resident of Adoor in Pathanamthitta district. His wife Kavya and friends Abhiram and Apsa sustained injuries and were admitted to Peerumade Taluk Hospital.

Police said the group of four were staying at a resort in Kuttikkanam and were on their way to pick up a friend from a resort in Karintharu near Elappara. As the car was approaching the Chinnar river bridge, the driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle plunged into the river.

Locals rushed to the spot, rescued the passengers and took them to Peerumade Taluk Hospital, but Abhishek could not be saved. After a post-mortem at the Government Medical College Hospital in Kottayam, the body was handed over to his relatives. Abhishek and Kavya got married last month.
