Nursing student’s ‘suspicious death’ turns out to be murder, youth arrested

The mystery surrounding the death of an 18-year-old B.Sc (Nursing) student at Vengannapalem village in Bhadradri Kothagudem district has been solved with the arrest of a 22-year-old youth who allegedly killed her on September 22 at his residence.

The accused has been identified as Devarakonda Pavan Kumar (22), a native of Vengannapalem.

The victim, a first-year student of B.Sc (Nursing) at a private college near Khammam, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her home on September 22 when she was alone.

According to the police, Pavan had known the girl for the past four years and had allegedly proposed marriage to her recently. She reportedly rejected his proposal after a ‘dispute’ between their families.

Enraged, he allegedly strangled her to death with a wire object at the back of her house before fleeing the scene.

A motorcycle, two mobile phones, including the damaged one, and a bicycle transmission cable were seized from the accused.

The Julurupad police initially registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother.

After the post-mortem findings, the case was changed to murder under Section 103 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
