The US will cease to issue work visas for drivers of commercial trucks, said Foreign Minister Marco Rubio.
Rubio announced this step on Thursday in the X post and said the change was effective immediately.
“We will immediately stop all working visas for commercial truck drivers. The growing number of foreign drivers operating large trucks on American roads threatens American lives and undermines the livelihood of American truckers,” Rubio said.
This decision comes on the heels of a deadly accident on 12 August in St. Lucie County in Florida, where at least three people were killed after the trailer became an illegal turn at the highway.

The driver, identified as Harjinder Singh, was of Indian origin and, according to Donald Trump administration, an illegal immigrant. Singh, who allegedly crossed the US border in 2018, received a commercial driving license in California. The law approved in California in 2013 allows residents to obtain a driving license regardless of their immigration status.
