Nine booked for illegal blasting at Anekal quarry
The Anekal police have registered a case against nine persons for allegedly carrying out blasts without proper permission and safety measures at a quarry in Thammanayakanahalli village of Anekal taluk.
According to the complaint filed by PSI Munirathna M., the police received credible information that blasting activities were being carried out at SLV Crusher in Survey No. 177 at Thammanayakanahalli without obtaining required licenses and without following mandatory safety protocols. Acting on a tip-off, a police team visited the site on June 3 at around 2.30 pm and conducted an inspection.
During the inspection, the police allegedly found workers preparing for blasting work using drilling equipment and explosives. Police said that no authorized blasting supervisor was present at the site and that the explosives were allegedly stored in an unsafe manner. Quarries extracted by blasting were reportedly loaded onto trucks for transport.
Police interviewed workers and supervisors present at the quarry and identified the individuals involved in the operations. Investigators were informed that the explosives were allegedly obtained from a supplier in Tamil Nadu. The complaint further states that operations at the quarry were conducted without the presence of an authorized blasting supervisor and without compliance with legal safety requirements, thereby endangering the lives of workers and the public.
Acting on the complaint, the Anekal police arrested nine persons under the Explosives Act, 1908, the Explosives Act, 1884, among other laws. Further investigations are underway to determine the legality of the quarry operation and the source of the explosive materials used at the site.
