Neeru Dhanda leads India to women’s trap team silver at the Asian Games

India’s Neeru Dhanda celebrates after helping the women’s trap team win silver at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. Dhanda also qualified for the singles final after finishing joint second in qualifying with a score of 118/125. Neeru Dhanda produced a composed and consistent display on the range to lead India to a silver medal in the women’s trap team event at the Asian Games here on Tuesday.Neeru, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer combined for 328 points to finish second behind China who won the gold with 346. Kuwait won the bronze with 325 points.The medal was built on the strong individuality of Neeru, who finished the qualifying round with 118 hits out of 125. She was joint first in the individual rankings and also qualified for the individual finals.Neeru started with 24 hits in the opening round and followed it up with a perfect 24 in the second round. She added 24 in the third, 23 in the fourth and 23 in the fifth to finish at 118. Aashim’s scores in five rounds were 20, 22, 23, 19 and 22, while Manisha shot 19, 21, 22, 22 and 20.The Chinese gold medal-winning trio finished on 346, with their five-round totals of 65, 71, 70, 72 and 68. Kuwait rounded out the podium with 325.For India, the silver adds another medal to the shooting campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. It is also India’s second Asian Games medal in the women’s trap team event after the silver won by Manisha Keer, Rajeshwari Kumari and Preeti Rajak in Hangzhou in 2023.The medal also took India’s 2026 Asian Games shooting tally to 13 medals, while India’s medal tally moved to 46 medals.But the immediate focus will now be on Neera. After putting together one of the strongest qualifying performances in the field, she will return to the individual finals with a chance to add another medal to India’s tally.
