Apart from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team stationed in Tirunelveli district, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has been sent to the district, the Tamil Nadu government said on Monday. Another NDRF team will be deployed in Villupuram district from November 26, it said.
The state government had earlier sent two SDRF teams to Thoothukudi district and one to Tirunelveli district. The Revenue Commissioner and State Aid Commissioner virtually reviewed monsoon preparedness with the Collectors of Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and Ramanathapuram districts.
In light of the weather warning, anglers have been advised not to go out to sea between November 24 and 28 and those fishing on the high seas have been asked to return to safety. The state government has asked district collectors to ensure that precautionary measures are taken.
On Monday, Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan reviewed the storage in waterways across the state. He also reviewed the precautions engineers take.
As the southern districts including Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari and Thoothukudi received heavy rain, the minister directed engineers in Madurai zone to ensure that all precautionary measures are taken. He also reviewed the ongoing works in the Cauvery delta areas of Tiruchi zone.
Mr. Duraimurugan directed officials to form teams exclusively for Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanniyakumari and the Cauvery delta region to take precautionary measures against the backdrop of war. He tasked officials to ensure that stocks in waterways are 10-20% less than their capacity.
