The ruling National Conference (NC) and the Opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday (Nov 13, 2025) reacted sharply to a notice issued by the Gurugram police to housing societies asking them to register Kashmiris and foreigners living there.
“We are Indians, we don’t need to be treated like foreigners in our own country. This order is both absurd and unfortunate. You cannot put Kashmiris and foreigners in the same category. It not only endangers every innocent Kashmiri but also raises serious questions about how citizens of Jammu and Kashmir are treated elsewhere in India,” NC leader and MLA said on social platform X Tanvir Sadiq.
While investigations must continue and those responsible for the recent blast near the Red Fort metro station in the state capital must be brought to justice, “such orders will only lead to unnecessary harassment of innocent Kashmiris across the country and Gurugram, which must be avoided,” he said.
Urging the immediate withdrawal of the order, Mr Sadiq asked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to “investigate the matter and ensure that this order is rectified without delay”.
PDP leader Zuhaib Mir, while describing the Red Fort blast as “barbaric and senseless”, said he had received distress calls from Delhi, especially from Kashmiri students. “Landlords have asked them to vacate their rented accommodation. Xenophobia is taking root again and it is scary to imagine where it could lead if left unchecked,” Mr Mir said.
He appealed to those in power, and above all to the people of the country, not to “alienate and discriminate against anyone on the basis of religion or ethnicity”.
“Don’t punish parents for monstrous acts of misguided sons. Terrorists aim to divide us along religious lines. Let’s not give them this victory,” Mr Mir said.
A thorough and fair investigation must be conducted, he said, to ensure justice while minimizing harm to the innocent. “It is only through unity and empathy that we can defeat those who seek to destroy our harmony,” the PDP leader said.
