Days after former cricketer-turned-politician and Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu was expelled from the party following her controversial remark that a person who gives “a trunk of ₹500 crore becomes Chief Minister”, Ms Sidhu announced her decision to quit the party.
Announcing her decision to quit the party on ‘X’, Ms Sidhu said promising leaders within the organization were not being heard. She criticized Punjab President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, accusing him of “damaging the organization”. She blamed him for “selling the party for small profits with an understanding with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
On 8 December 2025, Ms Sidhu was suspended from the Punjab State Congress Committee without giving any reason. “Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu is hereby suspended from primary membership of the party with immediate effect,” the order said.
Earlier, Ms Sidhu, a former MLA, had said that Navjot Singh Sidhu would return to active politics only if the Congress party declared him as its chief ministerial face in Punjab. Her husband and she have always stood for Punjab and ‘Punjabiyat’, she said, adding, “Whoever gives a trunk of ₹500 crore becomes the Chief Minister.”
Soon after her remark, political parties including AAP and BJP sought a response from the Congress party on the said allegation.
