Party national president Nitin Nabin on Sunday sent a stern warning to the BJP’s Karnataka unit on his first visit to the state, asking leaders to learn from the Tamil Nadu election result where the opposition AIDMK could not win despite the ruling DMK standing against the government, and asked the state unit to stop being complacent.
“The Congress government in Karnataka has failed on all fronts and has lost the trust of the people. Though it came to power on the promise of fighting corruption, several of its ministers are accused of scandals and even the chief minister himself is facing corruption charges. But the failure of the Congress government alone will not help the BJP come back to power,” Mr Nabin said at a closed-door meeting of the party’s legislative chairmen in Bengaluru.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, CT Ravi, MLC, said Mr Nabin made it clear that the state unit must project itself as a suitable alternative political force that can respond to the aspirations of the people in its bid to return to power.
“Don’t be under the illusion that you will come to power in the next election just because the Congress government failed. Such a thing did not happen in Tamil Nadu where the failure of the DMK was visible and the AIADMK was expected to benefit from the anti-establishment. But the TVK was able to benefit,” Mr Nabin said, according to Mr Ravi.
He said the national president tried to drive home the point that the party must launch campaigns and create public awareness against the “failures and misgovernance” of the Congress and also in the process instill confidence among the people that it is a strong political alternative.
The National President suggested that the state unit should prepare a charge sheet against the failure of the Congress government in each assembly constituency and draw up a campaign plan. Noting that the Karnataka unit has a strong organization across the country, Mr. Nabin said that the people themselves will help it come to power if the party starts fighting continuously and intensely for the people.
He said Mr. Nabin asked the party to prepare an action plan to win the various elections, including by-polls to the Assembly, biennial Legislative Council elections and GBA polls.
He also asked party leaders to focus on protecting the interests of the party and people rather than individuals, Mr. Ravi said. He further advised the party to work to protect the pride of Karnataka as well as the country.
Nabin accuses Congress of using Karnataka government as an ATM to run its ‘Delhi Darbar’
BJP national president Nitin Nabin hit out at the Congress government in Karnataka on Sunday, during his maiden visit to the state, alleging that the Congress was using its government as an ATM to fund the activities of its national unit.
“The Congress here is using its government as an ATM to help run its Delhi Darbar,” Mr. Nabin alleged while talking to presspersons after meeting party legislators and prominent leaders at the party office here.
“For the last three years, the Congress government in Karnataka has cheated the people and abused their trust. Due to their internal disputes, the works related to the welfare of the people have not been taken up,” he alleged.
