About 20 school children were injured when an overloaded private school bus carrying about 60 students overturned and fell into a dry irrigation canal at Ganeshpadu village in Penuballi mandal of Khammam district on Friday evening.
According to police, the bus belonging to Sri Vivekananda School in Moddulagudem village in neighboring Vemsoor mandal was on its way from the school to Ganeshpad and was ferrying students to their homes when the accident occurred.
Nearly 60 students aboard an overcrowded bus had a narrow escape when the moving bus turned turtle and fell into a canal near Ganeshpad. At least 20 students suffered minor injuries.
The bus was moving at high speed in an accident prone area when the driver lost control of the vehicle leading to the accident.
The incident bore a striking resemblance to another road accident involving a private engineering college bus in Aswapuram mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district that left around 30 students injured earlier in the day.
