Mysterious Message ‘8647’ Appears On National Mall Lawn Before Donald Trump’s Birthday Event | Today’s news
A large “8647” message that appeared on part of Washington’s iconic National Mall has sparked an investigation by US authorities, days before thousands of people are expected to gather in the area for a major event associated with US President Donald Trump.
The numbers were spotted etched into the grass east of the World War II memorial and were clearly visible from aerial views and live web cameras located atop the Washington Monument, CNN reported.
The images showed the numbers made up of patches of dead or faded grass spread across much of the National Mall. It remains unclear exactly when the designation first appeared.
According to CNN, photos taken on June 5 showed no sign of the message, suggesting the markings appeared within the past week.
Visible From The Sky, Hardly Perceptible On Earth
While the figures were easily identifiable from elevated vantage points and aerial photographs, witnesses said they were much less conspicuous at ground level.
Several emergency vehicles were reportedly seen near the area on Thursday afternoon, around the same time the US Army Golden Knights Airborne Team landed on the National Mall.
Authorities have not publicly linked the emergency response to the signage.
However, the appearance of the report attracted considerable attention due to the timing and political interpretation associated with the numbers.
Why numbers are significant
The sequence “8647” has become associated in some political circles with opposition to President Trump.
The number “86” is commonly used in the restaurant industry as slang for removing or getting rid of something. Because Trump is the 47th president of the United States, some critics have used “8647” as a symbolic expression of opposition to him.
However, members of the Trump administration interpret the phrase differently and see it as a threat directed at the president.
The issue has gained national attention in recent months.

Earlier this year, former FBI director James Comey was indicted by the Justice Department after he posted a picture on Instagram showing numbers arranged using seashells. Authorities claimed the post posed a threat to the president.
The White House condemns political violence
In response to the discovery of the label, White House spokesman Davis Ingle strongly criticized any form of political intimidation.
“Anyone who participates in or approves of political violence or the culture of assassination must be condemned in the harshest way possible.
The statement came as questions mounted as to who could have created the label and what message it wanted to convey.
Federal agencies monitoring the investigation
Several federal law enforcement agencies joined the response.
The United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have referred their inquiries to the United States Park Police, who are leading the investigation.
The Secret Service will assist Park Police once investigators identify a suspect, according to a law enforcement source.
A park police spokesman said officials have yet to determine what caused the grass to change color.
Samples have been collected from the site and are currently undergoing testing.

EarthCam footage shows the numbers appearing over several days
Video footage captured by EarthCam appears to show the message gradually materializing on the National Mall over the course of several days.
The time-lapse recordings have become a key part of the investigation as authorities try to figure out how the markings were created.
Investigators have not released whether they believe chemicals, landscaping equipment or another method may have been used.
Home Office calls it ‘deranged vandalism’
The U.S. Department of the Interior, which oversees the National Mall, issued a strongly worded statement condemning the incident.
A spokesman described the markings as “deranged vandalism” and warned that those responsible would face consequences.

“Any threat against the president is taken very seriously by the department and our US Park Police will investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable,” the spokesperson said.
Attention turns to the upcoming Trump event
The appearance of the news comes just days before large crowds are expected to gather in Washington for a UFC event tied to Trump’s birthday celebrations on Sunday.
Although officials have suggested no direct connection between the event and the signage, the timing has heightened public interest in the case.
For now, investigators are focused on determining how the message got out, who may have been responsible and whether the sign was intended as a political protest, vandalism or something else entirely.
Until these questions are answered, the mysterious “8647” message remains one of the most talked about events on Washington’s National Mall.
