Munnar will host the ‘Rain 40’ football tournament on August 9.

To promote monsoon tourism in the region, the fourth edition of the ‘Rain 40’ football penalty shootout tournament will be held on August 9 at the Munnar High Altitude Stadium. The event, which is scheduled to start at 10 am, will be organized by Greens Munnar. According to Saju Alakkappally, chairman of the organizing committee, 32 teams — 16 from Idukki district and the rest from other districts — will participate in the event.
Cash prizes
The champions of the tournament will receive a prize money of ₹50,000 and a trophy. The second, third and fourth placed teams will be awarded ₹25,000, ₹15,000, ₹10,000 and ₹5,000 respectively along with trophies.
The tournament is organized in collaboration with KDHP Company, Kochi Medical Trust Hospital, Munnar Lions Club, Munnar Destination Makers, HRMA Munnar and various other local organizations.
Devikulam MLA F. Raja officially unveiled the logo of the tournament on Wednesday. Ahead of the sporting event, an anti-drug rally will be held in Munnar in solidarity with the state government’s ongoing anti-drug initiative ‘Operation Toofan’.
