Mumbai’s monsoon woes worsen: IndiGo, Air India, Akasa, SpiceJet issue travel advisory | Today’s news
Heavy rainfall continued to disrupt flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Monday, with airport sources reporting 17 flight cancellations and 217 delays between arrivals and departures till 11:30 am.
The weather-related disruption comes as Mumbai remains under a red alert by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with the city witnessing intense rainfall and gusty winds.
Airlines issue new recommendations
With no immediate improvement in weather conditions, several airlines issued new travel advisories and asked passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Akasa Air said, “Due to heavy rains in Mumbai, Pune and Goa, some flights across our network may be delayed.”
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused to passengers, the airline added: “We realize this may disrupt your travel plans and ask for your patience and understanding. While this situation is completely beyond our control, please be assured that our teams are always ready to assist you.”
Akasa Air also urged passengers to check their flight status before starting their journey to the airport.
IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India are also warning passengers
IndiGo also warned passengers of possible disruptions, saying, “Bad weather over Mumbai may affect flight schedules.” The airline added that it is closely monitoring the situation and helping affected passengers.
Budget carrier SpiceJet issued a similar alert on X, writing, “#WeatherUpdate: Due to bad weather (heavy rain) at Mumbai (BOM) all departures/arrivals and their onward flights may be affected.” The airline has asked passengers to check the status of their flight through its official website before traveling to the airport.
Air India also warned that inclement weather may affect operations, saying, “Adverse weather conditions may affect flight operations to and from Mumbai and Delhi.”
Passengers are advised to check their flight status
As rain continues to lash Mumbai and more showers are forecast, airlines have urged passengers to stay informed through official channels and check the latest status of their flights before heading to the airport to avoid any inconvenience.
Heavy rainfall has affected both arriving and departing flights, with airlines working to minimize disruption while weather conditions remain unfavourable.
CM is raining in Mumbai
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday warned of a possible cloudburst-like spell in Nashik on Tuesday, saying the state machinery has been put on high alert as heavy rains are expected to continue till July 8.
In a press conference after taking stock of the flood situation at the state disaster management office, the chief minister urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and stay off roads as authorities worked to manage landslides, flooded rivers and rescue operations.
“The weather situation till July 8 requires constant monitoring. There is a possibility of a cloudburst-like event in parts of Nashik tomorrow. We are closely monitoring the situation and all agencies have been alerted,” he said.
Fadnavis said some sections of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway were closed after water accumulated at construction sites and restoration work was underway, while in Palghar district, another high tide expected later in the day could worsen waterlogging if rain resumes.
