Mumbai Indians star on a rampage in Punjab T20 League, smashes 173 off just 64 balls
Naman Dhir produced a stunning display of power hitting to smash 173 off just 64 balls as Amritsar Soormas crushed Mohali Kings by 67 runs in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 Cup on Monday.
Dhir’s extraordinary innings guided Amritsar to a mammoth 279/7 in 20 overs before Mohali Kings were bowled out for 212/9 in reply. The all-rounder was named man of the match after also picking up two wickets with the ball.
He came in intent on dominating and didn’t allow the Mohali bowlers a moment to settle down. After taking a few deliveries to get going, he exploded in the second over, dropping Ayush Goyal for consecutive sixes.
From there, the borders flowed inexorably.
Dhir brought up his half-century from just 19 balls and continued to accelerate at an amazing pace. He smashed 100 off 39 deliveries before taking his attack to the next level in the death overs.
His 173 came from 64 balls and featured a remarkable 16 fours and 12 sixes. He was eventually dismissed in the final over, caught by Harshdeep Singh off Ayush Goyal, ending one of the most devastating knocks of the tournament.
Jashanpreet Singh provided valuable support with 41 off 25 balls Abhishek Sharma chipped in with a quick 13 as Amritsar piled on the runs.
MOHALI FIGHTS BACK
Chasing a daunting target, Mohali Kings came out swinging. Anmolpreet Singh smashed 52 off 25 balls, hitting nine fours and two sixes, while Jaskaranvir Paul launched an impressive counter-attack.
Paul hit 76 off 41 balls, hitting five fours and six sixes and briefly gave Mohali hope of an unlikely chase. However, regular goals eventually derailed their challenge.
The middle and lower order couldn’t sustain the momentum after Paul departed in the 17th over, with Mohali getting past 200 as well.
Dhir rounded off his unforgettable day with the ball, returned two wickets in his spell as Amritsar completed a comprehensive victory.
It was Dhir’s day from start to finish, an innings of extraordinary brutality followed by skillful contributions with the ball, making it one of the standout individual performances of the Punjab T20 season.
