The veteran batsman, who was initially ruled out with a calf injury, has now missed almost a month of action. Although he has been seen practicing both batting and possession, he has yet to appear in matches, leaving fans disappointed. There were also rumors that when Dhoni returns, he might only play as a shock substitute and avoid wicket duties. However, CSK batting coach Michael Hussey, speaking on the sidelines of the match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, cleared the air and confirmed that Dhoni is expected to return as a wicketkeeper, not just as a specialist batsman.

It’s just running and late in the innings, if he comes he’s got to offend the ones and twos. He just needs to make sure the calf is strong enough to take it.”
Focus on full fitness
Hussey made it clear that Dhoni’s role will not be limited but his return is entirely dependent on his recovery. He added: “But certainly skill-wise we know what he can do as a goalkeeper. We know he bats really well so hopefully he gets that confidence in his body.” According to the team, the aim is to ensure that Dhoni is fully fit before he returns to the field.
Return probably soon
Giving a positive update, Hussey said that Dhoni is making good progress and is eager to make a comeback. “He’s progressing really well. I know he’s pushing hard to get back as fast as he can. I know all the fans want to see him, MS Dhoni, play outside as well. So we’re hoping, maybe in the next couple of games, but we also want him back as soon as possible,” he added.“But obviously he needs to be almost 100 percent ready to give his best because he’s hitting well in the nets, he’s looking good in the nets. I need him to run hard between the wickets as well.”CSK are doing well so far and are sitting mid-table but fans are still waiting for Dhoni’s comeback. After the win against Mumbai Indians, CSK will face Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
