More than one billion annual FASTag passes issued since August 2025 launch: Government | Today’s news
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said on Monday that its annual FASTag pass had been rapidly adopted, surpassing the milestone of one million passes issued since the system was introduced last year.
Launched on August 15, 2025, the pass provides commuters with an economical and hassle-free journey across nearly 1,150 toll plazas on national highways and expressways. By paying a one time fee of Rs. 3,075, drivers can bypass frequent toll refills either for one full year or for up to 200 toll crossings. This annual pass is available for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag.
The annual ticket is activated within two hours on a existing FASTag vehicles after paying a one-time fee on the Rajmargyatra app or the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) website, enabling seamless travel on national highways across the country.
The non-transferable season ticket is valid across national highway and national highway tolls. On highways or state highway plazas managed by state governments or local authorities, FASTag uses the existing wallet balance for state highway tolls and parking payments.
Growing acceptance The annual FASTag ticket highlights its role in facilitating seamless and cost-effective domestic highway transport, the ministry said in a statement. This initiative also reflects NHAI’s commitment to provide safe, smooth and hassle-free highway travel across the country.
Apart from facilitating safe and smooth transit, the annual pass system was introduced amid growing concerns over high toll rates on Indian highways. Several new highway corridors contain a series of toll plazas that make travel on specific routes cost-prohibitive for both private and commercial traffic. For example, one-way travel on the under-construction 1,386 km Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is estimated to be between ₹1,000 a ₹3000 depending on the type of vehicle.
Portability of FASTag
On September 17, NHAI said it has enabled its FASTag OneTag portable service on the newly launched Rajmargyatra mobile app. The feature allows users to link their existing vehicle sticker to a new bank account and change the issuing bank without changing the physical sticker, the agency said in a statement.
