Almost 625 people became ill and many of them had to be admitted to hospitals to distinguish heat and overfill during Rath Yatra here on Friday (June 27, 2025), the officials said.
According to the main district physician Puri (CDMO) Dr. Kishhore SatAPathy reported minor injuries, vomiting and fainting – mainly because of crowded conditions.
“Most of them were released after preliminary treatment for OPDS. There were no victims,” he added.
Odisha Health and Family Welfare said Minister Mukesh Mahaling said that the main cause of the disease among the devotees was extreme heat and humid conditions.
About 70 people underwent treatment at the Puri District Central Hospital, nine stating that it was in critical condition, the official said.
Meanwhile, sources claimed that many people were injured near the Balagandi area, where the Lord Balabhadra, Taladhwaja was stuck for more than an hour.
“The long -term stop led to the thick accumulation of the crowd, which resulted in several people trapped and suffered injuries and at the same time tried to get out of the overloaded area,” the official said.
The injuries were immediately moved to hospitals with the help of volunteers from government agencies and private organizations.
