The Ministry of Minority Affairs on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) informed the Lok Sabha that more than 6.17 lakh Waqf properties have been successfully verified and approved on the UMEED Central Portal-2025 as part of the government’s ongoing initiative to digitize and streamline Waqf property records.
Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, in response to an unstarred question raised by All India Trinamool Congress MP Sajda Ahmed, said that 7,99,978 Waqf properties have been initiated for uploading on the UMEED portal as on July 17, 2026.
According to the department, 6,17,102 properties have been verified and approved, while 91,623 properties remain in various stages of the recording process. Another 91,253 properties were rejected during verification. State and Union Territory related registration status details are available on the UMEED portal.
Complete life cycle
The minister said that the UMEED Central Portal-2025 was a statutory portal developed under the provisions of the UMEED Act, 1995. The platform was designed to manage the entire life cycle of Waqf properties, including registration, verification, collector survey, mutations, annual account audits and related administrative processes.
According to government records from WAMSI, the erstwhile Waqf records management portal, India has a total of 8.72 lakh sq m spread over 30 states/union territories covering over 38 lakh acres of land.
Responding to concerns over pending registrations, the government said Waqf Boards were initially given six months to upload details of existing Waqf properties, with a further extension of up to six months available through the relevant Waqf Tribunals or Courts. To facilitate the completion of the process, the Ministry has re-opened the UMEED Central Portal for those State and Union Territory Waqf Boards which have received such extensions.
