
A total of 457 motorists were fined by the Cyberabad traffic police for driving under the influence of alcohol during the weekend’s special enforcement drive.
According to data shared by the police, the offenders included 346 two-wheeler riders, 20 three-wheeler drivers, 86 four-wheeler drivers and five heavy vehicle drivers.
Alcohol tests showed 399 had a blood alcohol level (BAC) between 35mg and 200mg per 100ml, 34 recorded levels between 201mg and 300mg per 100ml and 24 had readings ranging from 301mg to 550mg per 100ml.
All perpetrators will be brought to justice. The traffic police warned that drunken driving is a serious offence, adding that those responsible for fatal drunken accidents will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder), which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail and a fine.
During the previous week (October 20 to 25), the court dealt with 336 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol. Of these, 317 offenders were fined, 19 were sentenced to imprisonment, including 6 for one day and 13 for two days, and 23 were assigned social service as part of their sentence.
Cyberabad traffic police said special enforcement drives will continue to curb drunk driving and increase road safety.
